Profile of Claudia Urrea

Claudia Urrea has over 20 years of experience in the field of Education and Technology. She leads strategy, management and coordination for the new PreK-12 Initiative at MIT. Claudia was born in Colombia, where she received an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from EAFIT University. In 1994, she joined MIT as a visiting research engineer at the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives. She received her Master’s degree in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University, and her doctorate degree from the MIT Media Laboratory. Her Ph.D. thesis studied the implications of one-to-one learning in a rural setting in Latin America.

Claudia joined MIT in 1994 as a visiting research engineer in the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives. Prior to joining SEI in 2015 she was a research scientist in the MIT Media Lab from 2007.
